Pillar IV: FAIR Data & Sustainability
Making exposome data ready to use today and in the future
Aim & motivation
In Pillar IV, we aim to make tools and data to study the air exposome easy to re-use for all stakeholders. The air exposome refers to all substances people are exposed to in air. Previous tools and datasets are often difficult to find, access or combine. This slows down solutions, leads to duplicated efforts and limits the ability of stakeholders, especially citizens, to act on the data. To overcome this, we ensure that all data produced in ExpACT follows FAIR principles: they should be Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Re usable. We also connect existing data resources to turn data into action. In this way, we make sure that ExpACT creates sustainable and long-term impact.
Activities & methods
We build a sustainable data platform that brings together air exposome data from different sources. This is a single-entry FAIR data point connecting existing infrastructures, including Samen Meten, Exposome Maps, Exposome Scan and the Ruisdael Observatory. We also incorporate new and existing and data into two interactive tools: Stoffenmanager and Urban Strategy. These tools help stakeholders make decisions in occupational health and urban planning.
Impact & role in ExpACT
The FAIR data point allows stakeholders to quickly identify and easily reuse relevant data resources about the air exposome. This supports transforming exposome data into action perspectives: practical steps citizens, governments, and companies can take to reduce our exposure to pollutants in the air. Pillar IV ensures that the data produced in the other pillars of ExpACT remain reusable long after the project has ended.
