Astrid Manders

Astrid Manders is senior researcher air quality at TNO. She has worked on the development of the LOTOS-EUROS regional air quality model and applied the model in scientific and policy-support studies for over fifteen years. Her expertise is in modelling various physical processes in the atmosphere. She links modelled concentrations to emissions and observed concentrations, with a focus on (ultrafine) particulate matter. She also has experience in AI applications in the air quality field.

Astrid leads a work package in Pillar I on (AI-powered) methods for multi-modal assessment of air pollution and their contributing sources. The goal of the work package is to better inform project partners and stakeholders on sectors and regions that contribute to air pollution. By making an AI version of the LOTOS-EUROS model, more detailed and near-real-time data become available. Another aspect of the work is the relationship between model results and various ExpACT measurements and measurement strategies.

We use new technologies to measure which chemical and biological substances in the air we are exposed to. This allows us to identify the main sources of air pollution and test potential interventions.
