Amy Harms

Amy Harms has been a senior scientist at Metabolomics and Analytics Centre at the Leiden Academic Centre for Drug Research, Leiden University, since 2010. Her research aims at innovative analytical tools for metabolomics-driven systems biology in personalised health strategies.

Her research focuses on improving sample preparation and chromatographic separation methods to achieve a broad chemical coverage She also wants to improve the interfacing to mass spectrometry, miniaturise analytical methods and develop methods for the identification of metabolites and exposure markers.

Amy Harms leads a workpackage in Pillar I about high resolution mass spectrometric analysis of the chemical and biological exposome in airborne particles. The main objective is to develop reliable measurements tools that are robust, validated and user friendly. The tools should be to measure the chemical and biological air exposome with good coverage, sensitivity and reliability, and throughput to enable dynamic measurements. She supervises PhD students Peter Smith and Marissa Kateva in developing gas and liquid chromatography mass spectrometry methods for identifying and quantifying chemicals found in the air.

"I hope to develop usable methods to improve the health of Dutch citizens"
